Ask about the person, not just the company.
1. Who will come to my home?
Ask for the technician's name when practical and whether that individual holds the credential being advertised.
2. Which credentials do they currently hold?
Ask for the exact credential and issuing organization. A logo on a website is not the same as verifying an individual.
3. Can I verify the credential?
Use the issuing organization's official directory when available.
4. What inspection level is appropriate?
Ask what will be inspected and documented, particularly after property transfer, system changes, damage or suspected problems.
5. Will I receive photos or a written report?
Documentation helps you understand findings and evaluate repair recommendations.
6. Are you insured?
Ask what coverage applies to the work being performed.
7. What standards or instructions guide the work?
A professional should be able to explain the basis for significant recommendations.
8. Who performs repairs?
Ask whether work is performed by employees, subcontractors or another company.
9. What does the estimate include?
Materials, scope, exclusions and documentation should be understandable before major work begins.
10. Can I get a second opinion?
For expensive or invasive repairs, a qualified second opinion can be reasonable.
