FOR HOMEOWNERS

“Certified” should lead to two more questions: certified by whom, and who holds it?

VerifySweep explains why homeowners should identify the credential, issuer and individual credential holder.

Certification is not a generic label

Different organizations administer different credentials. Ask for the exact credential name instead of relying on the word “certified.”

The individual matters

Verify the person who holds the credential. Do not assume every employee of a company holds every credential displayed in its marketing.

Different credentials test different knowledge

CSIA describes its Certified Chimney Sweep credential around chimney and venting evaluation and maintenance. NFI describes its certifications around hearth planning, installation and venting. Specialized education can complement foundational credentials.

Verification is simple

Use the credential issuer’s official public directory whenever one is available. VerifySweep’s goal is to make those checks easier for homeowners.

Verify from the source.

Use official credential and policy sources whenever possible.
