10 checks before hiring
Identify the actual company. Confirm the legal/public business name, website, phone number and who will perform the work.
Ask who holds the credential. A logo on a website is not the same as verifying the technician or supervisor.

Check inspection-specific education. If someone claims F.I.R.E. certification, verify the individual with the issuer. Visit F.I.R.E. →
Separate membership from certification. Association membership can be valuable, but it should not be represented as a technical certification unless the person separately holds one.
Ask for a written scope. Inspection level, proposed repair, materials, exclusions and price should be understandable before major work begins.
Check insurance and business information. For substantial repair work, ask for current insurance information and make sure the company identity matches the proposal.
Be cautious with urgency. Serious defects can exist, but pressure should not replace documentation. Ask to see photos, video or other evidence supporting expensive recommendations.
